Screens and sleep: the impact of blue light

The evening screen has become a reflex. But its light and its content send a signal to the brain contrary to that of sleep.

Checking your phone in bed, watching a series late at night: these very common habits have a cost for sleep. The cause, in particular, is the blue light emitted by screens, but also the content itself. Understanding how screens disrupt sleep allows us to adopt uses that are more favorable to rest.

Light is the main regulator of our internal clock. In the evening, darkness triggers the secretion of melatonin, the hormone that prepares you for sleep. Light, especially rich blue light from screens, can slow down this secretion and delay falling asleep.
